Choose Designer Bedding Set

The first step to creating a room like this is to select a designer bedding set. This set should be white, ecru, or stripped. These muted colors are best.

The room's softness and color will come from the lighting.  Top quality designer bedding is a must.

A 100% Egyptian or PIMA cotton, 800 count, Sateen stripped duvet cover and sheet step is perfect. These will reflect the light and enhance the room's warmth instead of clashing with it.

It is also important to keep the designer bedding style simple. Avoid Jacquard and Damask patterns, or lace trim. These will reduce the dramatic effect of the bedding pillows.

Mix sand or silica with a beige or linen colored paint. This texture breaks up the light as it hits the wall giving the room a designer look.

The wood trim must be several shades lighter, but not a different color. This lightens the room without breaking the mood. 

A good choice is to paint the trim the same color as the designer bedding set.  Remove all ornate, metal or worn furniture. Pick furniture with sleek, smooth lines that match the pattern in the designer bedding.

The next step depends on the home designer's personal tastes. If the person prefers a natural look, then add a plant in the corner, but cover the top of the soil with silica sand.

Then use bamboo for the drape rods, furniture, and trim.

There can even be a bamboo or illusion of bamboo chunks in the bedding pillow. Simple cotton sheers finish the room. 

If the homeowner is not into the natural look, use dark wood for the curtain rods, smooth simple furniture in the Greek curved style, or even Shaker furniture. 

Satin or Sateen Designer Bedding

Finish the entire room with table lamps covered with rice paper or beige shades. The designer bedding style in this room can be Satin or Sateen.

This will brighten the room.  If the lighting is right, a high quality designer bedding set, in an Egyptian cotton, Sateen or Satin, will shimmer like silk.  

Then use lower watt bulbs. This will give the room a rich, warm glow, with a plumb or beige trim, depending on the colors of the floor and bedding pillows.

The bedding pillows bring everything together. They should be bold and dramatic. This is where the room's contemporary punch comes from. 

3 To 5 Pillows

There should be three to five pillows.  Do not tuck the pillows under the comforter. In fact, in the daytime, the comforter can be removed and covered with a simple duvet cover, or a throw blanket tucked inside.

 Instead of tucking the pillows under the comforter, lay the bedding perfectly flat and arrange the bedding pillows on top. 

The first two or three bedding pillows should be placed at a forty-five degree angle where the mattress meets the wall.

 A simple floral or Oriental design, gold on white, is perfect.  If these bedding set pillows are out of your price range, use a sateen stripped pillow, white or ecru. 

The next two bedding pillows should be dramatic, a plumb, burgundy, or red satin is perfect.

The final pillow is a decorative or true bedding pillow. Rose is a perfect color for this 'focal point' bedding pillow. Or, if you purchased a designer bedding ensemble, use the neck roll for the focal pillow.
