Sateen Bed Sheets

"Satin and Sateen Bed Sheets -
 Your Elegant Alternative to Silk...."

Some interior decorators do not consider a bedroom's luxury complete without the smooth, cool feel of silk.

However, even in today's online specialty stores, silk is an expensive and impractical product. That is why many home decorators have turned to Sateen bed sheets

They embody the same smooth as cream feel as silk, the same rich look of wealth, but with more durability and easier care.

Sateen and Egyptian Cotton

Sateen bed sheets are made from a special weave that increases the smoothness and comfort of cotton, while giving it a glimmering finish that automatically makes the bed the focal point of the room.

However, many people are confused about what Sateen really is. It is not a cotton or fiber type.  The two best cottons in the world, Egyptian and PIMA, are used to make Sateen bed sheets.

High Thread Count Sateen Sheets

Sateen does produce a higher sheen to the sheets, but it is not as durable in the lower thread counts. That is why it is recommended to purchase Sateen bed sheets that have higher thread counts.

People who prefer a thinner sheet can still enjoy Sateen bed sheets by purchasing a few extra sets to reduce the wear and tear increasing the sheet set's life.

For people who need the durability, and do not want to invest time and effort into the care of fine cotton sheets, there is satin bed linen.  Satin is not a type of fabric. Satin means the fabric has a smooth, silk like shine to it.

Satin Blends

Some Satin is made of Rayon. Duchesse satin can contain silk fibers. Most satins are blends of cotton and polyester, giving the satin bed linen more durability. Satin bed linen requires less care and concern when cleaning, but it also lacks the quality that Sateen bed linen provides.

This should be taken into careful consideration when purchasing king bed linen. Satin bed linen can bring a touch of grace to a smaller room, or a child's room.

But, when purchasing king bed linen, it does not compare to the shimmer of Egyptian and PIMA cotton, high thread count, Sateen bed linen.

Durable Sateen Bed Sheets

Many home decorators hesitate before selecting Sateen for their king bed linen. They worry about the weave, and durability.

This is a needless worry.  The higher thread counts, 500 to 800, increase the durability and the sheen of Sateen bed linen.

Assuming that Satin bed linen is stronger than Sateen bed linen is also a false assumption. While thread count is usually not a factor in Satin bed linen, there are different types of Satin.

Some satin, like Charmeuse, is woven so finely that it has the feel of lingerie.

King Bed Linen Pocket Size

When purchasing king bed linen, the first thing the buyer should consider is the pocket size. This determines whether the bottom sheet will fit the mattress. Mattress sizes rarely include the thickness of the quilted pad.

This leads many people to purchase King bed linen that does not fit their bed.

When purchasing Sateen bed linen, look for linen that has an elastic all the way around the sheet.  If the mattress is made in the new style, with a quilted pad on top, then the pocket should be 18".

One the home decorator chooses Sateen bed linen they need to consider durability. When buying King bed linen the resilience of the weave, and the thread count, will determine how long the sheet set lasts.
